As an expert you are already operating at best practice level in your technical domain. But to get to Master Expert level, you need to be focused on getting to next practice level as quickly as possible. To reach that level you need to have a plan.

To help you create your plan, ask yourself these questions:

  • What obvious trends are going to force me to change the way I do things in the future?

  • What drove the most recent changes in the way my domain operates, and how could I learn from that to predict where the next inflection point will come from?

  • What changes have I been hoping to make in the way I go about things, and what have been the barriers? How do I overcome them?

  • To what extent is the whole team thinking and worrying about the future of what we do? How do I encourage and facilitate that thinking?
