Whether you work in a commercial or a public sector organisation, It’s essential that you understand performance benchmarks There are two levels to this knowledge: how well your department performs compared with similar departments in other organisations, and how well is your organisation performs against rivals.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I have a clear idea of how the performance of my department has to be measured?

  • Am I measuring it this way? Do I have the data feeds that allow me to benchmark against rivals? How would I get access to this data? How often do I conduct a reality check on how well we’re really performing against rivals?

  • Do I have a clear idea of how the performance of my organisation has to be measured?

  • Am I aware of how well it’s performing?
